Movie: WALL·E (2008)

Thu, 17 July 2008 @ 4:33 p.m. EDT  9 reviews

What if mankind had to leave Earth, and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off? After hundreds of lonely years of doing what he was built for, WALL*E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. EVE comes to realize that WALL*E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet's future, and races back to space to report her findings to the humans (who have been eagerly awaiting word that it is safe to return home). Meanwhile, WALL*E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets an adventure into motion. Joining WALL*E on his journey across the universe is a cast of characters including a pet cockroach and a heroic team of malfunctioning misfit robots.

A cute film about finding one's purpose.

Asks apt questions about what being human means. Illustrates a distopia of overconsumption, lack of environmental stewardship, and poor leadership. The ending (a back-to-Eden restoration) is tacked-on and not credible. But overall it's very well-executed: good story-telling, nice visuals, and the combination of kid and adult appeal that Pixar has become known for.

The opening short is cute, too.

A true treasure! Cute and fun enough for kids while integrating real world issues that adults are dealing with now. A must see, one of the top movies of the year.

This movie requires suspension of any and all forms of disbelief. However, if you're willing to do that, it's definitely a fun movie.

Wonderful movie, very cute. The plot is good.

As far as social commentary, I think it could go either way, but I think if you look past trying to pin political themes to the storyline you can see that the references are more non-pc truths about society.

It was an okay movie, but I guess I expected more from it (even though it was a kid's movie). The plot was very predictable, but it did most of the things that Disney does well.

A sobering film presented with brilliant animation.
